BOTOX, or botulinum toxin, helps to reduce the appearance of facial creases and wrinkles by paralyzing or relaxing the muscles in your face. It causes a temporary reduction in the specific muscles that you might want to treat.
Using a small needle, Dr. Dotson injects the toxin into specific muscles in your face. No anesthesia is required, and the procedure only takes a few minutes.
Temporary bruising and a little pain at the injection site are common side effects. Sometimes a headache can occur, but that’s rare.
It can take anywhere from three days to two weeks to see the full effects of BOTOX treatment, and your results should last around 4-6 months.
Your wrinkles will start to re-appear as the muscle gradually restores action. At this time, you can re-treat the muscles if you want to maintain the effect. The more injections you have done over time, the more your muscles are trained to relax. Over time, your wrinkles should appear less severe.
BOTOX doesn’t help to fill in existing wrinkles that may have already formed; instead, it prevents your muscles from continuing to make those wrinkles. That’s why wrinkles caused by sun damage or gravity may not be responsive to this type treatment.
If you’re pregnant or breastfeeding, suffer from a neurological disorder, or are allergic to albumin, you shouldn’t receive BOTOX treatment.
